Snowmageddon 2026

5 April 2026

Winter 2025-2026 will be remembered around here for a while. On January 24th, we had, what was originally forecasted as a major ice event that was going to topple trees and down power lines, a decent powdery snowfall of 3 to 4 inches. Snow around here usually falls, and then the next day the sun comes out and warms things up and almost everything is melted away in a day or two. This time, the snow was followed by subfreezing weather, so very little of it melted. Two weeks later, we were hit with another snowfall, this one dumping many inches across the area. We got just over a foot of snow. Again, below freezing temps kept the snow around through most of the week. Ice damming, which is a common problem in the north, became an issue that most people were unaware of around here.
