Another year is upon us. We continue to work on finishing some small items inside the house. I have installed the new mantel shelf in the study,
as well as the new mirror!
I have yet to make the new corbels. Once they are done and installed, we will attempt to apply a faux finish to match the rest of the mantel. Oh, and yeah, I still need to fix the crown at the top of the left column.
A fair bit of our time so far this year has also been applied to Amy's new venture, Lorraine's Legacies. She has been a Physical Therapist her entire professional life. It has been a fulfilling career, but she feels it's time for a change. She has had a passion for antiques for a long time now and has decided to give it a try as a business. She is going in to business selling antique furniture, silver flatware, glassware, china, and other miscellaneous things. We have a booth at the Collector's Antique Mall in Asheboro, NC. She is also on Facebook and Instagram as Lorraine's Legacies. Our daughter Sam is filling the role as her social media guru.
In support of her business, and to give us greater flexibility in terms of making more progress on the house, we are also going to construct a workshop/storage building on our property. Now that we're living in the house and all the rooms have been restored, I haven't been able to have a dry, sheltered work area where messes can be made. This has been problematic over the last year with around 20 inches of rainfall above average for our area. Not only a problem when it is actually raining, with the ground so soaked, it stays muddy for days, which puts a real damper on my motivation. So far we've staked out the corners and started to clear away the trees.
We are also looking forward to begin restoration of the exterior of our home, starting with the back porch... or maybe we'll start painting the house if the price of lumber hasn't come back down by summer.
Looking forward to reading about your new goals. Best of luck to Amy's new business.
ReplyDeleteHello from your neighbor on Kennedy Farm...thanks for the peeks into your beautiful home. I've loved it since I was a little girl and am so happy you're restoring it! I've enjoyed reading your blog and just found it through Donna's link on FB. Best wishes to Amy in her new business.
