Getting Close To The Next Milestone

3 September 2019

Wow! So many things are happening, I'm not sure where to begin!

That big slab of granite we picked out at Schneider Stone got cut and installed in our kitchen.

We finished putting up the bead-board in the pantry.

The vanity in the jack-n-jill bathroom is done.

The toilet, sink, and light fixture are done in the downstairs half bath.

The pair of vanities for the master bathroom are done.

The tub is done in the downstairs master bathroom.

We scraped all the walls in the kitchen, dining room, and living room.

The dining room walls had been covered with fabric back in the day. Since it wasn't wall paper, there was no glue. Instead they used hundreds of small tacks. We were the ones who decided to pull out all those little fabric tacks. The last owner had painted over them.

When we scraped the living room, we discovered some clues in the old paint layers that lead us to believe that this room used to have picture molding around the upper part of the walls, a two tone paint scheme, and tall base molding around the bottom of the walls. So we changed our plans to reflect what we think was its original appearance.

We primed all of the walls that we scraped. This was a big project so we taped everything off and used an airless paint sprayer.

Then we painted all the of the walls.

In the living room, we painted the ceiling and upper foot of wall a olive green, and the walls a shade lighter. We'll use stained picture molding to separate them. Some 7" tall stained baseboard will go around the bottom.

I also finished building out the plenum for the return vents for the first floor HVAC system. I used the same pieces I had take off of the wall and stairs to cover the bumpout. It looks like it's always been there! (Well... except for the big white metal grille.)

And finally (for this blog entry anyway), after a hastily arranged trip to Georgia, necessitated by an unexpected find on Facebook market place, we have a matching set of new-to-us Heartland appliances! A wonderful couple was moving from Atlanta to Kansas and didn't want to take these with them. We were very fortunate to acquire them and they go perfectly with our vision for this house.
