Painting Takes A Pause

13 October 2022

Amy has been painting the back of the east end of the "T".

This looks so much better!

I finished the skirt wall for the "new" porch...

And then we built the new floor structure. For the most part, we're building all of this the same way it's been done in the past. The biggest differences are that I'm making the beams by laminating 2x's and we're using metal joist hangers instead of ledger boards

The joists are running parallel to the house so that the porch floor boards will be perpendicular to the walls and slope slightly down from the house.

This is the only area left for Amy to paint, but she can't do it until we finish the porch rebuild. My plan is to totally redo the porch roof here including the small flat roof at the left end. The new roof will be deeper, so the support posts will be sitting directly over the rim joist when the porch is done. The next step is to put in the flooring, but that might be a little while because we'll need to make about 64 pieces of 1" thick tongue and groove boards from standard treated decking.

For the end of this post, a 'stop and smell the roses' moment.
