Dirt is Dirt, is Dirt... Not!

 2 May 2021

Work on our house proper has slowed immensely. Amy has been very busy working on her new career as an antique dealer, also working as staff for the antique mall where she now has a couple of booths, and gradually wrapping up loose ends with her physical therapy patients.

I have been working on preparing (yes, still) the pad for our future storage building. It turns out you've really got to scrape away all the top soil and get down to the hard red clay dirt that we have here in North Carolina. No organic matter allowed under a concrete slab.

So I've created 4 new piles of 'bad' dirt around our front yard, and we have been paying for truck loads of good fill dirt to be brought in. I get them one at a time and spread them out with our tractor, packing it all down as best I can. Then call for another one. With my schedule, this is happening about 1 to 2 times per week. This is where we are now, still short 3 to 5 more truck loads of dirt because we need a flat level area with all four sides at least at, or preferably, above grade, and this area slopes down slightly toward the road.

I have managed to remove the eye sore in the foyer! No more white metal grille.

And as a teaser for things to come, we have also acquired some supplies to create a new period-ish looking stair railing.
