We Have Arrived - Part III

I also added a hose spigot near the mobile home since the home does not have any exterior hose spigots of its own.

I ran an extension cord from the farm house over to the mobile home so I could start making repairs to the floor.

And built a porch and stairs for the back door. Not as easy or as quickly without Jeremy's help.

After getting an inspection pass from Randolph County, Energy United came to hook up the electricity from the street.

The surveyor from Davidson Water had marked the wrong location for the water main at the street, so when EU dropped their auger to set the post, they went right in to the existing water main pipe. Fortunately Davidson Water was able to come out right away and repair the pipe before lunch time.

The HVAC guy we had contacted was also able to come out that same afternoon and hook up our heat pump. Very much appreciated when temps are at or near 90 degrees, humidity around 95 percent, and dewpoints between 70 and 75 degrees!

The last major task: Install 1,000 s.f. of all new laminate flooring. It feels great to be in our own house on the property. As I'm sure many of you already know, it gets very dark, and very quiet around here at night (at least quiet from man-made sounds).

  1. Favorite sound in the darkness out here is the barred owl. You will probably also hear coyotes.

  2. Yes. I've heard owls, but don't know what species. Haven't heard any coyotes yet.
