Going Down

9 February 2016

First I want to show you the well that Amy and I liked enough to push the septic system way out from the house.

We believe this was dug out by hand and lined with river rock.

I dropped a trouble light down to the water surface. It's about 30 feet down from ground level. The water is pretty clear. I can see three plastic jugs in the water. We'll have to figure out a way to clean that trash out. Who know what we'll find! Probably more trash.

The top of the well has been finished with a few rows of brick, and then this concrete rim. We're thinking that we'll build a patio here. More appropriate for the house than a pressure treated wood deck. We'll get rid of this concrete and make the top of the well flush with the patio, then have a wrought iron grate made to cover the well. Something safe but that you can still see through.

For now it will sit here with a cover on it.

Second, when the septic guys were clearing space to do their work, the guy running the skid steer backed in to the small chimney on the right side of the house that was leaning away from the wall. He made the situation a "little" worse.

Since we obviously didn't want it to fall unexpectedly on its own, Charles knocked it down with his digger.

And that was that.

Looks better already!
