We've had a little stretch of nice weather (that means, it isn't raining) so we've pushed ahead with more work on the wrap around porch. After repairing a small section of rotted wood on the west side beam, we needed to slide the beam on the north side back in a little. It had shifted away from the house by an inch or so.
We jacked up the porch roof on the north side to take the load off the corner post and the first post to the left.
With no load on this end of the beam, I was able to tap it back in to place, more or less.
And we turned the corner with the porch decking.
After making a full turn at the northwest corner, we switched to using the old porch boards that we had removed earlier.
There was a lot more rotted wood and some previous, poorly done repair work on the northeast corner.
Out with the old and in with the new!
Back inside, we've been able to get a lot more bead board up in the kitchen.
We put new flooring down in the downstairs bathroom.
Then installed a beaded plywood wainscoting with more salvaged bead board above that.
The new wall in the upstairs master bathroom also got its salvaged bead board covering.
I fixed the hole on the inside of the chimney in the kitchen.
I also started working on building the kitchen island.
I'm basically having to build the island around our fireclay sink. Of course Sassie has to check it out as soon as it's put in place.
And no, we still haven't started fixing the roof on the second floor. Soon though!
